About Us

Everyone has a deep need to belong to a group of caring, welcoming, friendly people who accept and value others. We believe our church is such a place.

Regardless of your so-called status in life or ethnic origin, you are valued as a person who shares the same struggles and joys that life brings all of us.

We offer a place to connect with other people and develop life-long friendships. At the same time, we provide a place to connect with God.

We're family friendly and pretty casual; there are no dress codes or particular rules that have to be adhered to in order to belong to our church. Come as you are and feel free to be yourself.

Our church services have a relaxed, contemporary feel with a preaching style that seeks to address everyday issues according to the principles God has given us through the Bible.

Our hope is that through being part of our church you will be inspired, equipped and challenged to live your faith in every area of your life.

What We Believe

E-mail Print

We believe...

  • The divine inspiration and supreme authority of the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments.
  • The existence of one God in three persons the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
  • The deity and incarnation of the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the Son of God, the second person of the Holy Trinity.
  • The fallen, sinful and lost estate of all people.
  • The salvation of men and women from the penal consequences and power of sin through the perfect obedience of the Lord Jesus Christ, His atoning death, His resurrection from the dead, His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and His unchanging priesthood.
  • The immediate work of the Holy Spirit in the regeneration of men and women, in their sanctification, and in their preservation to the heavenly Kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • The necessity, in order to know salvation, of repentance towards God and of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • The resurrection of the dead, and the final judgement of all people by the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • The two ordinances of the Lord Jesus Christ, namely Baptism and the Lord's Supper, which are of perpetual obligation: Baptism being the immersion of believers upon the profession of their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and a symbol of the fellowship of the regenerate in His death, burial and resurrection; the Lord's Supper being a memorial, until He comes, of the sacrifice of the body and blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Bob Hayes become the first church secretary,he shares his memories of how Sydenham Baptist Church came into being: "Our first meetings were held in my and wife Nancy's home, while next foor at Wally and Jan Gladman's house, the children were entertained and cared for. Having the two houses together was a real God send in the early days."
